What is a Tannoy System?
In it’s basic form, a tannoy system is a simple collection of loud speakers providing sound reinforcement to provide voice based informational and instructional announcements. A good use case example of a tannoy system application would be at a train station where audio is used to provide travel and passenger information.
NOTE: The term ‘tannoy system’ is used colloquially in the UK. However, Public Address (PA) systems and Paging systems are also widely used and interchangeably to describe the same basic use case function.

What are Tannoy Systems used for?
The most common use case across most businesses for using a tannoy system is for making general voice announcements. Often, this will be for locating and contacting staff. For example, a classic tannoy announcement could be something like… “attention please, could john walker please contact the production office”.

Modern day Tannoy Systems
Site communication and mass notification has been around for a very long time. However, tannoy systems and wider commercial audio technology has rapidly evolved over recent years, with vastly improved function, capability and scalability. Integration with ‘other’ technologies and communications systems as well as user access for making tannoy announcements is now much more flexible. For example, it’s now possible to make tannoy announcements using mobile apps, web apps, regular telephones, SIP IP telephones and even through integrated messaging and communications platforms such as Microsoft Teams. This development and progression in both audio technology and tannoy application design now provides additional system management and control as well as much improved user access with location flexibility.
