Audio Sectors

Sound systems tailored to the unique requirements for businesses and the different industry audio sectors.

How we support industry and audio sectors

Business and industry sectors employ commercial audio extensively. Most sectors employ common audio applications such as general purpose broadcast and Public Address / PA (Tannoy Systems) for mass notification. Background Music (BGM) is also widely used, often integrated with marketing strategies in the hospitality, retail and leisure industry sectors. Audio used to support lockdown policy and process has become increasingly used, especially in schools, local authority and corporate settings. Public spaces and venues such as airports and sports stadia use audio for announcements and BGM but also to integrate through specialist audio design and installation standards to meet fire and evacuation regulations (Voice Evacuation).

Factories & Industrial Audio Sector

The factory and industrial sector uses two primary audio applications. First, a factory tannoy system (otherwise known as public address, PA or paging) which we see used extensively for selective zone playout and site wide mass notification. Second, background music (BGM) which we see used mostly for radio playout across factory production and manufacturing areas.

  • Tannoy System for general site wide communication
  • Background Music (BGM) / Radio
  • Automation and integration process (eg. SCADA)
  • Co-ordinate incident and security
  • Medical and first aid responder shoutout

Logistics & Warehouse Audio Sector

The primary audio application used in the logistics and warehouse audio sector is background music (BGM), and specifically radio within the main warehouse operations areas. Many warehouse settings also use a tannoy system for general announcements and staff calling. This sector also use time scheduled (automated) playout of audio messages, tones / bells for shift changes and break periods.

  • Background Music (BGM) / Radio
  • Warehouse tannoy system, site wide communication
  • Integration with CCTV and door access for alerts
  • Co-ordinate incident and security
  • Medical and first aid responder shoutout

Schools & Education Audio Sector

Many schools use a site wide audio system to provide three primary audio applications. First, a zone based tannoy system to provide information and instruction. Second, commonly used to playout school bells, otherwise known as class change. Third is school lockdown – using the audio system to raise alarm, trigger lockdown playout messages and co-ordinate ‘in-vacuation’ policy.

  • Zone based school tannoy system for announcements
  • Scheduled school bells and class change
  • Background music (BGM) within circulation areas
  • Lockdown system, co-ordinate incident and security
  • Medical and first aid responder shoutout

Offices & Commercial Audio Sector

Offices and wider commercial sectors generally don’t use audio that presents disruptively (quiet spaces with people in meetings and on the phone). In that regard, office settings don’t normally use background music (BGM). The office audio sector mostly uses audio for important, intentionally intrusive tannoy announcements. Office settings use lockdown to co-ordinate security incidents and in-vacuation instruction control.

  • Zone based office tannoy system for announcements
  • Lockdown system, co-ordinate incident and security
  • Medical and first aid responder shoutout

Sports and Leisure Audio Sector

The sports and leisure sector are big users of foreground and background music (BGM). Somewhat a ‘hand and glove’ audio application for these sectors, music creates atmosphere in gyms and wellness leisure settings. Leisure, sports venues and stadiums also use tannoy systems for interval music and also for staff & public announcements.

  • Foreground and background music (BGM)
  • Zone based tannoy system for announcements
  • Staff and public announcements
  • Voice Evacuation – BS5839 & EN54
  • Medical and first aid responder shoutout

Hospitality and Retail Audio Sector

The hospitality and retail use background music extensively to create atmosphere as well as part of their marketing and branding strategy. Numerous studies have shown BGM in retail has promoted increased shopper spend in retail settings. These sectors also use tannoy system announcements to call staff and for public information. For example, scheduled playout of recorded audio messages for store details, opening/closing periods and advertisements.

  • Extensive use of background music (BGM)
  • Audio / Sonic branding & marketing
  • Digital audio signage’
  • Spot advertisements
  • Tannoy system for staff and public announcements

Healthcare & NHS Audio Sector

Audio systems are used in the healthcare sector to inform and help co-ordinate staff activities (eg. a readiness alert in an A&E ED department). A tannoy system application for announcements are also used for public / patient information and instruction (eg. patient calling).

  • Staff calling & readiness instruction (eg. A&E / ED)
  • Patient call from reception areas
  • Background music (BGM) in reception / waiting areas

MoD & Emergency Audio Sector

The MoD (military), Police and Fire & Rescue sectors employ audio in a number of ways to provide mass communication. Fire & rescue stations depend on local tannoy announcement systems for call-out, military bases use audio broadcast across huge areas, many buildings and 100’s or even 1000’s of speakers.

  • Mass Notification
  • Local site/station tannoy systems for call outs
  • Public announcement for incident control
